Vinod is a Registered Nurse based in Brisbane and the founder of Nurse Trainer. He brings more than 25 years of experience across nursing and education, and he still teaches personally: the NCLEX-RN and OSCE programmes are led by him, not delegated.
He comes from a teaching family. His mother was a teacher and his father served in the army, and both of those influences show up in how he runs a classroom. There is the patience and structure of a teacher, and the discipline, preparation and attention to standards of a military background. Combined with clinical nursing, that mix is the reason Nurse Trainer courses feel rigorous without ever feeling cold.
Vinod qualified with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Government College of Nursing, Government Medical College, Trivandrum, in 2004. He went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma at University College Cork in 2012 and a Master of Nursing at University College Dublin in 2016.
He has also sat the exams he now teaches. Vinod completed his CGFNS certification in 2006 and passed the NCLEX-RN in 2007, and was recruited by a hospital in California. Visa retrogression to the United States halted that move, and he relocated to Ireland in 2007 instead. Having gone through the applications, the exams, the waiting and the disappointment himself, he understands the process his students are living through, not just the syllabus.
His clinical career spans India, Ireland and Australia, across hospital, community and specialist settings. He has worked at every level from staff nurse through to senior clinical and nurse management roles, leading teams, supervising junior staff and holding responsibility for standards of care. That breadth matters in the classroom: the exams he teaches cover the whole of nursing practice, from medical and surgical care through to maternity, paediatrics, mental health and pharmacology, and he has practised widely enough to teach all of it with authority.
Teaching has run alongside all of it. Vinod was delivering PSC exam training while he was still an undergraduate. He went on to teach in nursing colleges including Manipal College of Nursing and KMC Manipal as an Assistant Lecturer, worked as an NCLEX trainer with RN India, a United States recruitment firm, and has been a freelance NCLEX-RN trainer ever since. In Ireland he was a Health Care Trainer and Course Coordinator with B&B Nursing, preparing healthcare assistants for work in Irish aged care. More recently he tutored undergraduate nursing students at the Australian Catholic University in Brisbane between 2020 and 2023, running clinical skills workshops and mentoring students through their assessments.
He currently works part time with the Department of Health in Australia. Staying in practice keeps his teaching current: the standards, the language and the expectations he teaches are the ones he works to every week.
Since founding Nurse Trainer in 2009 he has built the full curriculum, including the 23 module NCLEX-RN programme, the OSCE preparation course, and the Personalised Performance Monitoring system that tracks each nurse to a validated green light before they book their exam.
